The Romans named the river and valley after the abundant gold in that region, while maintaining the wine-making tradition.
The English established strong ties with the Portuguese and made new achievements in history.

Trade remained prosperous, and at a certain point, it was concluded that very strict rules were needed.

On September 10, 1756, by royal decree, the FIRST demarcated and regulated region in the WORLD was established!

His majesty, Douro!
The Douro Valley could rightly be called the "Magic Valley" - such is the beauty and charm of its landscapes. Starting from Porto, where the Douro River brings its waters, we will get to know the cultural landscape included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Monumental natural beauty modelled by human labour awaits you. We are talking about the first wine region in the world with clear boundaries, allocated farms and a clear classification, confirmed by royal decree!

We will visit one (or two) of the best wineries in the country and learn all about dry and port wines, accompanied by quality tastings.
Lunch will allow you to get to know the national cuisine of the valley and the country's hinterland, and a boat trip on the river will give you an exclusive opportunity to see the valley from an original angle.
